SATA Automation GmbH—a newly established entity combining SATA’s nozzle technology with the robotics expertise of startup CurveRobot—has announced an exclusive distribution and development framework for the jetstream automated painting robot.

Currently undergoing operational validation in Europe, the system is scheduled for a formal North American market deployment, positioning it at the intersection of traditional refinish craftsmanship and automated shop production.

Technical Performance and System Specifications

The jetstream operates as a specialized, high-precision painting cell designed to integrate directly into existing spray booth configurations. Key technical attributes include:

  • Application Scope: The automated system is engineered to independently execute 35% to 50% of standard spray application tasks.
  • Nozzle Integration: The system utilizes SATA’s automatic paint spray gun equipped with jet X nozzle technology, designed for fine, uniform atomization and reproducible material distribution.
  • Algorithmic Gaze/Scanning: An optical scanning system maps the vehicle geometry in real time, automatically calculating trajectory parameters, atomization zones, and precise layer overlaps to prevent runs or millage inconsistencies.
  • Material Conservation: Precise robotic tracking eliminates manual overspray margins, yielding highly predictable paint consumption rates per repair order.

Operational Realities and Return on Investment

For collision center operators, the primary objective of the jetstream platform is mitigating current labor constraints and optimizing existing painter capacity rather than labor displacement:

  • Parallel Processing Optimization: While the jetstream executes baseline coats on high-volume body panels, a facility’s senior refinish technician can simultaneously manage complex color matching, custom blending, or final quality inspections.
  • Workflow Consistency: By standardizing coating application metrics, the tool minimizes typical painter-to-painter execution variances, lowering a shop’s overall rework rate and stabilizing keys-to-keys cycle times.
  • Amortization Timelines: Financial modeling provided by SATA suggests that based on material savings and increased spray booth throughput, the capital investment yields a complete return on investment (ROI) within a three-year window for qualified collision facilities.

Industrial Collaborations & Pilot Deployments: SATA is actively working with global refinish paint manufacturers to optimize automated application parameters for current waterborne and solvent-based coating lines. The system is presently operating in a live pilot environment at a BOYA paint shop facility in Hanover, Germany, utilizing a dedicated application program developed in conjunction with BASF’s Line 100 coating system.

North American Rollout Schedule

Following its active European pilot, the next operational phases for the jetstream system are scheduled as follows:

Late 2026: Final installation of a permanent operational demonstration and evaluation unit at the SATA Canada Training Centre in Vaughan, Ontario. The facility will utilize the cell to establish standardized training paths, technician initialization protocols, and localized OEM paint system verifications for North American shop structures.?

September 8–12, 2026: Full international commercial display and live presentations at Automechanika Frankfurt in Frankfurt, Germany.
